This is the second most favourite image of the ‘artisitic’ photographs from my Italy photography tour and workshop that I recently posted on my Facebook fanpage.

f4.0 @ 1/500 ISO 5000 105mm lens
What I noticed first was the way the raindrops caught the highlights from the street lights and merged with the pattern on the tables.
Having photographed raindrops a few times in my life ( I do live in Vancouver, BC after all) I knew that changing my angle of view and using selective focus and creative white balance might result in some pretty funky images. Overall I shot 10 frames and have 3 that I like with the image at the top of this post being my favourite.
This image was the one right before my top pick where I started playing with where the selective focus was placed and started getting in even closer with my long lens for shallower depth of field.
The only thing I would change is using such high ISO (I was at 5000) when I didn’t really need to. Sigh…I still get so visually excited and distracted that it’s tough to be totally on top of my exposure tools at the same time. 🙂
In terms of post processing, I added contrast and brought down the highlights with a bit more clarity than usual and a small tweak to the vibrance in Lightroom.
Looks great! Yes, Vancouver is a good place to practice raindrop shots 😉
Makes me love rain all over again. Beautiful
